LYRICAL PHILOSOPHY (The “Cali Rose Gets Goofy” CD)
“‘It’s a P.M.S. Kind of Day,’ ‘The Doggie-Doo Blues,’ ‘Pooey, Pooey, Pooey, It’s Christmas,’ and other humorous songs about life in the 90’s fill this sparkling collection, entertaining written and sung and beautifully produced.”
“Congratulations to you on your joyous, funny, uplifting CD! I especially like ‘I woke up’ and Happy Birthday. And related so well to the saga of the VW (my ’67 red bug remains my favorite car of all
time, it ran like it thought it was a Porsche.) Great singing and playing and arrangements, what a wonderful gift you have bestowed on your fans. I wish you many sales, that the fun may spread to the furthest reaches of your mandala and beyond.”
Brava! The documentary really touched me, especially, since I and my “girlfriends” are at the end of our 7th decade and will be moving into our 8th next year. We aren’t able to get together as we once did because of transportation and physical issues. But I know we all can remember the music and songs of our youth and those memories bring forth a lot of good feelings. Bless you and your compadres for bringing joy to our generation‼️
Your writing style is so witty and entertaining–you simply MUST write a book, my dear!
“By the way, your tunes are very danceable – we’ve tried and they work well!”
“I just wanted to write how much I enjoy “Are You Havin’ Any Fun.” I hope this doesn’t sound like an odd type of compliment, but it is of the highest order. If my mom were to sing to me it should be in your voice. And one more compliment, the Hawaiian songs you did – they are done as if you were a local.”
“Chris and I wanted to pass along a thank you! We have been playing your CD in the office this week and everyone here thoroughly enjoyed the tunes. Being on the front end of “tings,” it’s always nice to see and hear the finished product. It is especially nice when the music is as good as “Are you having any fun?”! Very serene. Thanks again for sharing.” [Disc Makers]
You have inspired me to push beyond just strumming…thank you for a most enlightening hour of my ukulele life. (Re: Chord Melody Workshop at the 2018 Los Angeles International Ukulele Festival).
Love love love your blogging! You give me useful tips. My continuing education goes on.
“I’ve been loving listening to it in my car as I jaunt down the street, singing along with it. It is just a superb CD! The production is splendid with everything clear, precise and balanced. Especially, the slower songs reveal the nuances of your voice (e.g., Maui Nights, Beautiful Dreamer, Sweetheart, True Love). Your uke playing is just wonderful! Really neat arrangements, and skillful precise playing. Every note, high and low, is in tune and perfectly rendered. You do some amazing ukelizations. Your singing is also wonderful. You are really versatile and with great presentation and arrangements. Nice back up singing too. What a pro you are. Cali, dear, this is just a marvelously enthralling and professional recording showing off your best stuff, and I’m enjoying it immensely.”
“I have to say again how very much I enjoy your CDs. It feels like you singing just for me when I listen. Maybe it’s because I know you or perhaps it’s because I have seen you perform live, I don’t know. Your music feels personal to me. I am just as happy for you and you furthering your career. If I owned an airline, you’d have you own audio channel. Then again, I know how you feel about flying…”
“A good teacher will go through it slowly the first time, and address any helpful tips for making the fingering efficient, and any special strum patterns. The second time through the song, still playing slowly, and the instructor possibly calling out instructions for the tricky parts.”
Which is what Cali does to a tee. Cali also has a great sense of humor, which makes our twice a week classes so much fun to attend. Her personal attention and her devotion also creates an atmosphere of camaraderie, especially with the twice a year pot luck parties she throws.
I’m thoroughly enjoying these classes! Thank you for all the time you put into these workshops, classes, gig’s (latest flash mob was the best!), music arrangements and everything else you do for us.
“…the consistency I’ve heard in the songs are in the ‘spirit’ you successfully impart to your music. Music is rightfully comprised of several facets much beyond notes, chords and arrangements and I especially enjoy how I feel when I listen to your music.” [Kimo Hussey]
