Let\u2019s put it this way, the volume is at eleven, and it\u2019s playing <em>The Age of Aquarius.\u00a0<\/em>Suddenly this particular quadrant of TJ\u2019s is awash in the cast of Hair singing \u201cThis is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius, Age of Aquarius\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">She wrestles the cell phone from her purse and answers, \u201cHi Mom!\u201d<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">MOM? That\u2019s mom\u2019s ringtone? Really? I saw Hair in 1968 at the Aquarius Theater in Hollywood. If I had had a kid (instead of house plants) that kid could have been this lady.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I wanted to laugh out loud. But I didn\u2019t. This is the same Trader Joe\u2019s where my mother had a public melt-down. Where they almost had to call the guys in white suits to haul her off. (<a href=\"https:\/\/sable.madmimi.com\/c\/8590?id=101263.24030.1.47be0194d191915b9d0dd8e14a9d5b0a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click Click<\/a> if you want to read THAT blog). It happened a handful of years ago but it kind of feels like yesterday. So I quietly remind myself that I\u2019m still alive. I\u2019m still making music AND\u2014<em>here\u2019s the big news<\/em>\u2014I\u2019m appearing (along with a whole bunch of other musicians) in a brand new documentary called <strong>Never Too Old.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4330\" src=\"http:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trust-fund-with-cali-jamie-and-ann-300x171.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"381\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trust-fund-with-cali-jamie-and-ann-300x171.png 300w, https:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trust-fund-with-cali-jamie-and-ann-768x436.png 768w, https:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trust-fund-with-cali-jamie-and-ann-1024x582.png 1024w, https:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trust-fund-with-cali-jamie-and-ann.png 1112w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 381px) 100vw, 381px\" \/>One of my longtime friends got me into <em>the party<\/em> last June when we filmed at the Long Beach Senior Center. This documentary was produced by <em>The Recording Industry\u2019s Music Performance Trust Fund<\/em> which is part of The American Federation of Musicians. They send musicians to underserved communities around the country to share music and a whole lot of <em>happy<\/em>.\u00a0The documentary gig is right up my alley. This is what I do when I\u2019m not teaching\u2014I sing and play ukulele for senior citizens and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Before my performance, the crew puts me in a big high-back wicker chair that I swear feels like a throne. It goes <em>crunch<\/em> when I move so I try not to move. It&#8217;s decorated with a fat garland of plastic roses. There&#8217;s a lot of <em>pink<\/em> happening here.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4331 \" src=\"http:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trustfundhalo-300x169.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"353\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trustfundhalo-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trustfundhalo-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trustfundhalo-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trustfundhalo-520x292.png 520w, https:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trustfundhalo-260x146.png 260w, https:\/\/calirose.com\/wackyworld\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/trustfundhalo.png 1058w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 353px) 100vw, 353px\" \/>We are on a second floor walkway outside the senior center and the director asks me lots of questions about performing and music and then we have to wait a few seconds as a helicopter <em>whizzes<\/em> go by\u2026and a nearby siren stops wailing\u2026and the car horns stop <em>honking<\/em>. You know\u2026urban life. (Special shout out to the film editor.)<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The video crew filmed in New York City, New Orleans, Long Beach and the documentary features very talented and dedicated musicians. Life-long musicians, doing such important work, changing lives, all the while hovering under the media radar. And here we are bringing the generous heart of music to communities where music really heals, really comforts and really brings us together. <em>At least for an hour.<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sable.madmimi.com\/c\/8590?id=101263.24031.1.1659e88dc46c8791c94332567f9cf3d9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CLICK HERE<\/a> to watch the documentary.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">It runs twenty-seven minutes and I hope you will watch the whole thing because you will be inspired! I appear around minute nineteen. They have included snippets from several songs I play including two of my own tunes: <em>Pony Ride<\/em> (which is a ukulele instrumental) and <em>This Morning Something Wonderful Happened To Me (I Woke Up).*<\/em> You have to know that I am THRILLED about that. Music is also about serving the heart and soul of a community with something that reminds us all of our shared humanity.
