The Ocean House in Carlsbad. The Ukulele Society of America meets in the huge rotunda room. You have to see it to believe it…<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Well it\u2019s a fun time in the old town Thursday night, June 28, when my husband Craig<\/a> and I are the guest artists at the Big Kanikapila! And you are invited! We will share the evening with the wild and wonderful Ukulele Society of America<\/a> at the Ocean House, located at 300 Carlsbad Village Drive in Carlsbad, California, 92008. And it\u2019s all about Kanikapila joy \u2013 food, music, hula dancing, schmoozing and lots of fun. For free! Except for food and beverages. Order dinner, appetizers, drinks (Happy Hour goes to 7:00 P.M) from the menu. I hear that some people play the uke, eat and drink at the same time. I can do that. Sloppy but fun.<\/p>\n

Follow the bouncing ball…<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I\u2019ll perform a few songs, Craig will play a couple solo uke pieces, we\u2019ll do some songs together and end our set with a rousing sing-a-long. People start arriving at 5:30 and we perform from 6:10 to 6:50, followed by a short break then more singing and playing. They project the words and chords on a giant screen by the stage. It\u2019s big enough to see from San Diego. The evening ends at 9:00 P.M. You don\u2019t have to play a ukulele to join us and have a great time.<\/p>\n

\n\"\"<\/a>Friday, July 20 to Sunday, July 22, Craig and I will be teaching and performing at The Mighty Mo Ukulele Festival<\/a> in New Haven, Missouri. We’re looking forward to a warm, wonderful gathering of uke lovers making sweet music at the bucolic Cedar Creek Conference Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wednesday, July 18 we’re meeting and greeting and playing with The Indy Ukers in Indianapolis, Indiana.<\/p>\n

Midwest here we come!<\/strong><\/p>\n

And speaking of the Los Angeles Kings\u2026 In my last blog, I wrote how their Stanley Cup victory brought up an arena full of memories for me. All of a sudden I am playing in the old piano bar. Again. At one of the King\u2019s postgame hangouts, The Bar Melody. Judging from the responses I received, you were slippin\u2019 and slidin\u2019 back in time too. Please know that I read every one of your emails and I\u2019ve included a few here\u2026 Just for fun.<\/p>\n

MIXING MUSIC AND HOCKEY MANIA<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I used to watch the Kings at The Forum when I was growing up in Southern California but I just couldn’t bear it anymore after their disastrous first appearance in the Stanley Cup Final back in 1993. I had to dust off my old jersey for the playoffs this year though and, in keeping with old my superstitions, vowed to wear it whenever they took to the ice. Last weekend I had to throw my old jersey on over my jacket and tie in the middle of a gig (during a bass solo, of course) just before the beginning of Game 2. My drummer and bass player thought I’d lost it. But all’s well that ends well, and I could hardly sit still throughout the whole game last night! Thanks for taking me on a trip down memory lane to the old Forum days! Best wishes, Paul Hemmings<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

I went to one hockey game at the Forum with some execs from Columbia Records (back when I was a “signed artist”). I, too, was amazed at the speed at which the puck traveled, and I expressed concern that it might come flying over the Plexiglas wall. They assured me that it never happened. Of course, a few minutes later, it did and went whizzing right over my head. Sigh. I get so tired of being right. A huge fight broke out toward the end of the game. It was spectacular! The thing I noticed about the players is how few of them had their front teeth.
