“I have officially worn out your new CD! I have played it at home, in the car, in other people’s cars, on the computer….you name it. I love it! Every song has its own personality and unique vibe. What truly makes it special is the fact that it puts one in a good mood immediately and makes even the worst of days seem not so blue. I don’t have a favorite because they are ALL my favorites! Thank you!”

Note:  This album was nominated for Best Adult Contemporary Album in the 2009 Hawaii Music Awards. It didn’t win and some folks were a little upset about that, like Ric Douglas, who wrote me the message below…

“Well I said I L O V E  your website and I do and I also applaud your one-woman-do-it-all approach, going to the care homes and connecting with your CDs and upbeat attitude, so very important, as you said, in these challenging of all times.  Looking forward to your CD receipt and connecting more as I’m always drawn to the under-dogs of this world, those who exhibit grit.”

“…a sweet and simple joy to listen to.  What an uplifting array of music and lyric.  I am so impressed with your originals, your poetry, singing, and with your ukulele playing! It’s a first class production, and I wish you all the success that you have merited in the sales and distribution.”

“My favorite song on your new CD is the waltz that describes your first car. I play it over and over being reminded of the VW bug that was my first college car.”

“So we have listened to this 3 times: before dinner over appetizers, during dinner, and now after. It is sooooo wonderful. We are toe tapping now as before. Sooooooo positive and re-affirming. Rudy the Cat listened intently as well. Honestly it is really quite an awesome accomplishment. It is indeed an “Ode to Joy.” How we must all remember our first cars with such fondness. Lore’s first was a little blue truck with a stick shift. I learned how to sorta drive a stick shift in that truck. I could do everything but play the clutch on a hill. I settled for an automatic sedan, but seem to arrive safely most times. Loved all of it, but “We Got Rhythm” and “It’s Easy to Play the Ukulele,” of course, resonated with me. I will try to believe that we all got rhythm 🙂 Wow! Really such a special artistic achievement! Yay!”

My dearest Cali,

I cannot tell you how much I enjoy what you write in the hopes that we learn what you are trying to instill in us. Your dedication is amazing, and your love for your teaching, and for us is to be greatly admired. You will never know what it meant to us to have found you on our road of life, and how much you touched us, not just with your teaching, but how we drove home happy for having been with you.

Frankly, you are cheaper than a psychiatrist, and so much more fun. Thanks for the memories, and thank you for all that you are. When I get to heaven, and they try to give me a harp, I will ask if I could not have a ukulele instead, and are any of my ukulele friends there so we can form a group, and teach the harp players how to play the ukulele. We will then have to wait a long, long time, for you to show up.

A grateful student,

I just wanted to let you know that your two albums I bought are helping me reach my new fitness goal. I am in the process of getting my health and physique back to when I started to be a flight attendant almost 30 years ago. I listen to those lovely quirky fun songs and your beautiful voice and uke playing and my workout is so much more fun! I already lost 15 lbs…
